Overview:

Dolores High School's first senior class graduated in 1940, but the building we visited was built in 1955. The High School hosts about 250 students, many of which come from the local community, some of which commute to this successful school from Cortez and other areas. The school provides child care services for its staff and just this year installed an infancy program, at a very low cost to school staff, which has proven to boost teacher retention. The success of the Dolores High Bears can be summed up by this piece of data: they hold a 71% growth rate in SAT scores, and while at the state level 44% of students need remedial math and English courses when they are in college, only 6% of the Bears go on to need the remedial supports.
