Overview:
One of the biggest highlights of Cortez Middle School is their excellent garden to school program. They have a great garden out back that students use to learn about agriculture and plants that also supplies the cafeteria with fresh produce. This school has a pod system that caters to students’ ability levels and individual interests. This is a very diverse school with a large number of Native American and Latino students. They are getting very close to a one to one ratio of students to chrome book laptops. The school itself was built in the 1950s and was originally Cortez’s High School. The teachers here are passionate about the students and want to put in the work to make this a place where students can succeed.
The school garden is run by students and provides all the food for school lunches.
