Overview:
Finished in 2015, the new state of the art Montezuma - Cortez High School (M-CHS) is nothing like you have ever seen before. Dr. Jason Wayman, the principal, welcomed us with excitement and lunch. As we ate, we listened. He grew up in Cortez, attending the district’s schools, graduating from M-CHS in 1998. After college at Mesa State University, he returned to teach – giving back to the community that raised him. In 2012, he became principal of M-CHS and watched over the three-year process of his new high school being built. Now that it is finished, it truly is a sight to see.
The student population of M-CHS is 700 strong and quite diverse. It is a comprehensive 9-12 high school that accentuates post-secondary and workforce readiness. The school, in addition to its core academic courses, offers a wide variety of electives and enriching extra-curricular opportunities, but two of its grand spectacles are offered in its Career Tech. Ed. (CTE) pathways. These two are its Fire-Science program and the Healthcare Occupations for Students of America (HOSA) program. With the new building, the access to rigorous technical training programs has become available to students in an unprecedented way.

An incredible program that is getting students vocationally prepared to be firefighters after high school.
A program offered that includes hands on learning to be successful in the agriculturally working environment.
